Student Course Completion Checklist
Follow the required steps for your EMR, EMT, or AEMT course and access the approved forms and guidance used during completion review.
Before you start
Not every step applies to every student. EMR students ordinarily have no ambulance externship requirement. EMT and AEMT students complete their assigned clinical/field activities and any additional requirements in the applicable syllabus.
Clearance is not automatic
This page is a resource checklist, not a live record of your status. Submitting forms does not establish completion or certification eligibility; TRM must verify academic, skills, clinical, documentation, and applicable administrative requirements.
Complete Your Requirements
Follow the steps that apply to your program. Your course syllabus and TRM staff will identify any additional requirements.
ALL PROGRAMS
Upload Required Documents
Upload assigned identification, CPR/BLS, immunization, and onboarding documents. TRM must review required records before clinical placement.
ALL PROGRAMS
Complete Assigned Skills & Screening
Attend assigned skills/labs. When required, TRM conducts drug screening and initiates Checkr enrollment at designated in-person sessions. Hybrid AEMT students follow their integrated lab schedule. Screening clearance is required before patient-facing shifts.
EMT & AEMT
Request Your Clinical or Field Shifts
EMT: at least 36 ambulance hours and 10 patient contacts. AEMT: at least 48 hospital hours, 48 ambulance hours, and 25 contacts. Sites may require more; requesting a shift does not confirm placement.
WHEN APPLICABLE
Finish Clinical Documentation
Complete assigned PCRs, procedure/skills records, and feedback. Your preceptor completes your Clinical Student Evaluation. EMR students follow course-specific instructions.
ALL PROGRAMS
Complete Your Course Evaluation
Submit your end-of-course evaluation and finish required coursework, exams, skills, and competencies before requesting the final file review.
For the governing clearance, screening, field-placement, and documentation requirements, review the Clinical Eligibility Policy and your approved course syllabus.
Clinical Documentation Resources
Students submit their assigned PCR and preceptor-feedback records; preceptors submit Clinical Student Evaluations. Do not enter patient names, identifying details, or protected health information in public or unapproved forms. These records support evaluation but do not replace formal competency verification.
Submit Patient Care Reports
Submit assigned educational PCR documentation without patient names or other identifying information.
Clinical Student Evaluation
Your preceptor completes the evaluation of your clinical/field performance.
Final step • After all other requirements
Request Your NREMT File Check
Submit only after completing assigned coursework, examinations, in-person skills, required clinical/field experiences, documentation, evaluations, and applicable administrative/financial requirements. TRM reviews your records and determines whether you are eligible for course completion processing and subsequent NREMT steps.
A TRM file review is not certification by NREMT or Texas DSHS. External testing and certification requirements still apply.
