- High school diploma, GED, transcript, or equivalent documentation when applicable.
- Current CPR/BLS certification when required.
- Current EMS certification or licensure when required for an advanced-level program.
- Ability to meet essential educational and participation requirements, with applicable reasonable accommodations.

Level-specific admissions standards are described in the current Student Handbook, course syllabus, enrollment agreement, and other approved program documents.
Background Checks, Drug Screens & Clinical Eligibility
Participation in clinical, field, externship, internship, or capstone education may require background screening, drug testing, immunization documentation, health clearance, site orientation, confidentiality agreements, facility training, identification, and other onboarding requirements.
Clinical and field affiliates establish their own eligibility and participation requirements. A site may deny, limit, suspend, or terminate a student’s participation based on applicable screening results, onboarding status, conduct, safety concerns, available capacity, or its own policies.
Students unable to satisfy clinical or field eligibility requirements may be unable to complete required educational experiences. Texas Rescue Med cannot guarantee unlimited alternative placement options. Applicable refund eligibility is governed by the relevant written policies and agreements.
Criminal History & External Credential Eligibility
Texas DSHS, the National Registry, clinical affiliates, and prospective employers may independently evaluate criminal history, disciplinary actions, background screening results, and other eligibility factors.
Admission to or successful completion of a Texas Rescue Med course does not guarantee eligibility for clinical placements, National Registry certification, Texas EMS certification or licensure, employer credentialing, or employment.
Prospective students with concerns about prior criminal history, disciplinary history, or certification restrictions should consult the appropriate certification or regulatory agency before enrolling.
CERTIFICATION PATHWAYS
Course Completion vs. Certification & Licensure
Successful completion of an educational program is separate from certification or licensure. Texas Rescue Med provides education and verifies qualifying program completion; external agencies determine eligibility for their examinations, certifications, and licenses.
Depending on the certification level and applicable rules, students may be required to:
- Complete all required Texas Rescue Med educational activities and assessments.
- Receive authorized education completion verification.
- Create or maintain a National Registry or Texas DSHS applicant account.
- Submit certification or licensure applications.
- Pay any applicable examination or regulatory fees.
- Complete required certification examinations and other qualifying assessments.
- Complete Texas-specific requirements when applicable.
- Satisfy relevant background and regulatory eligibility requirements.
- Meet the requirements in effect at the time of application.
Texas Rescue Med does not issue National Registry certification or Texas state EMS certification or licensure.
National Registry Examination Eligibility
National Registry eligibility requirements are established by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and may change. Students are responsible for satisfying the requirements applicable to their certification level.
For applicable initial-certification pathways, candidates must complete qualifying EMS education, receive authorized education verification, and meet current examination and application requirements. Additional prerequisites may apply depending on the level.
Instructor-development coursework does not independently grant Texas EMS Instructor certification. Individuals seeking that credential must satisfy the instructor-training, application, examination, and other requirements accepted by Texas DSHS.
PROGRAM COMPLETION
Program Completion Requirements
Students must successfully complete all applicable educational and program requirements to qualify for course completion.
- Required attendance and instructional participation.
- Learning Management System participation and progression.
- Required assignments, quizzes, examinations, and minimum grades.
- Cumulative or final examinations when required.
- Required skills training and verified psychomotor competency.
- Scenario-based evaluations and applicable proficiency requirements.
- Affective, behavioral, and professional conduct standards.
- Clinical and field hours, patient contacts, and assigned experiences.
- Required procedures and patient care competencies.
- Preceptor evaluations and approved documentation.
- Assigned remediation and subsequent competency verification.
- Required compliance documentation and administrative completion steps.
Requirements vary by course. The approved course syllabus, Student Handbook, instructional assignments, and applicable clinical or field standards identify the specific requirements for each program.
Attendance, Participation & Progression
Students are expected to attend assigned classes, skills labs, virtual instructional sessions, clinical and field experiences, testing activities, and remediation appointments.
Online and hybrid students must maintain required LMS activity, complete assignments on time, meet program benchmarks, and satisfy applicable pre-skills or pre-clinical readiness requirements.
Failure to meet attendance, participation, academic, skills, clinical, or documentation requirements may lead to remediation, delayed progression, suspension of participation, administrative withdrawal, dismissal, or inability to meet course completion requirements under the applicable program policies.
SUPERVISED PATIENT CARE EDUCATION
Clinical & Field Education
Clinical and field education opportunities depend on affiliation agreements, patient volume, preceptor availability, student eligibility, scheduling, operational capacity, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Placement Limitations
Texas Rescue Med cannot guarantee:
- A particular clinical facility or EMS agency.
- A specific preceptor or assigned shift.
- A particular geographic location.
- Exposure to a specific patient type or medical condition.
- Availability of a specific procedure or patient care opportunity.
- Completion by a preferred date when eligibility, student availability, or site capacity causes delays.
Students must comply with applicable site policies, including dress code, attendance, professionalism, documentation, infection control, confidentiality, safety, background screening, drug screening, immunizations, and required onboarding.
Student Work & Supervision
Students participating in laboratory, simulation, clinical, field, externship, internship, or capstone activities do so for educational purposes.
Enrollment does not make a student an employee of Texas Rescue Med or an affiliate organization. Students must not be used to replace regular personnel or satisfy staffing requirements in place of compensated staff.
Students must remain appropriately supervised and may participate only in activities permitted by their training, assigned role, applicable authorization, medical direction, and clinical or field site requirements.
Student Scope of Practice
A student may perform a skill or intervention only when it has been appropriately taught, is authorized by the program, is permitted by the assigned site, is appropriate for the student’s level and demonstrated ability, and is performed under the supervision required by policy and applicable law.
Participation in an educational activity does not independently expand an individual’s legal scope of practice. Students must not independently perform unauthorized procedures, administer unauthorized medications, make unsupervised medical decisions, or function as independent EMS agency personnel.
Occupational Risks & Safety
EMS education and supervised patient care activities involve inherent physical, biological, environmental, and psychological risks.
Students must follow required personal protective equipment, infection prevention, scene safety, lifting, supervision, and reporting procedures and comply with the directions of authorized instructors and preceptors.
Technology & Online Learning Requirements
Online, hybrid, virtual instructor-led, and LMS-supported courses require suitable technology, reliable internet access, a compatible computer, and any webcam, microphone, software, or platform access specified for the course.
Technical difficulties do not automatically excuse missed instruction, examinations, assignments, or participation. Students should notify program personnel promptly when a technical issue affects access or progress and follow the applicable course procedures for assistance.
ENROLLMENT & FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
Tuition, Fees, Refunds & Financial Holds
Tuition, application fees, deposits, payment schedules, withdrawals, refunds, financial holds, collection activity, and financial appeals are governed by the applicable written enrollment agreement, invoice, payment arrangement, Student Handbook, financial policy, and governing law.
Students are responsible for understanding their financial obligations before entering an enrollment agreement. Applicable charges and payment requirements should be disclosed in the relevant written documents.
Delinquent accounts may result in administrative holds, restrictions on future participation or scheduling, approved collection activity, or other actions permitted by the governing agreement and applicable law. Financial holds do not independently alter earned academic grades. Restrictions affecting educational records, completion documentation, or certification-related verification are subject to applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Withdrawal, Cancellation & Refund Eligibility
Refund eligibility depends on the applicable financial policy, signed enrollment agreement, course type, withdrawal timing, course access, costs incurred, and governing law.
Students seeking to withdraw must submit the required official written notice. Stopping attendance, failing to access the LMS, discontinuing assignments, or failing to attend clinical or field activities does not independently constitute an official withdrawal.
STUDENT RECORDS & CONFIDENTIALITY
Privacy & Student Education Records
Texas Rescue Med collects and maintains enrollment information, student education records, LMS activity, payment documentation, clinical onboarding information, and program completion records as described in its institutional policies.
Texas Rescue Med uses educational privacy practices consistent with applicable confidentiality expectations. Direct applicability of FERPA depends on the institution and educational arrangement. Student records are handled confidentially and disclosed according to legitimate educational need, applicable law, authorization, and institutional policy.
Students may encounter protected patient information during clinical or field experiences. They must comply with applicable HIPAA requirements, Texas Rescue Med confidentiality policies, and the privacy practices of their assigned healthcare or EMS affiliates.
STUDENT RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Non-Discrimination & Accessibility
Texas Rescue Med is committed to providing a respectful and nondiscriminatory educational environment. Discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct are prohibited.
Students seeking reasonable accommodations should contact Texas Rescue Med as early as possible. Requests will be reviewed under applicable law and program policy. Reasonable accommodations do not eliminate essential program competencies, patient safety requirements, or legitimate clinical eligibility standards.
Academic Integrity & Professional Conduct
Texas Rescue Med expects students to demonstrate honesty, professionalism, accountability, ethical behavior, and respect for patients, fellow students, instructors, preceptors, staff, and clinical partners.
Prohibited conduct includes:
- Cheating, plagiarism, or unauthorized sharing of examination material.
- Falsifying attendance, clinical or field hours, patient contacts, skills, examinations, or educational records.
- Misrepresentation of identity or professional qualifications.
- Unauthorized disclosure of patient or student information.
- Unsafe behavior, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or serious professional misconduct.
Violations may result in documented corrective action, remediation, course failure, removal from clinical or field experiences, dismissal, or referral to appropriate external authorities where required or justified under the applicable process.
Complaints, Grievances & Appeals
Students may submit concerns, complaints, grievances, and appeals through the applicable Texas Rescue Med procedures. The type of concern determines the appropriate review process and submission requirements.
Academic decisions, administrative withdrawal, financial holds, refund decisions, disciplinary actions, dismissal, accessibility matters, and other concerns may have distinct submission deadlines or review standards.
Submission of an appeal does not automatically suspend applicable academic deadlines, financial obligations, clinical requirements, or administrative actions unless required by law or authorized through the governing process. Texas Rescue Med prohibits retaliation for good-faith complaints or protected reporting.
External Organizations & Third-Party Services
Texas Rescue Med may use or link to external services, including regulatory and certification agencies, clinical affiliates, testing organizations, payment processors, background screening services, drug screening providers, learning platforms, and technology vendors.
Third-party organizations establish their own applicable requirements, decisions, fees, privacy practices, service conditions, and procedures. Students should review the requirements of external organizations relevant to their participation and certification pathway.
No Guarantee of Employment
Texas Rescue Med provides education, training, certification preparation, clinical coordination, and other professional development resources. Completion of a program does not guarantee employment, job placement, promotion, employer credentialing, or acceptance by a particular agency.
Employment decisions are made by individual employers and may depend on certification, licensure, background checks, driving history, physical ability, employer standards, interview performance, and other requirements outside Texas Rescue Med’s control.
Student Handbook & Governing Documents
The Texas Rescue Med Student Handbook & Program Manual, course syllabus, enrollment agreement, financial policies, clinical and field requirements, institutional policies, and official written communications may all apply to a student’s participation.
Where documents address the same issue, applicable law and regulatory requirements control. More specific executed agreements or approved program documents may govern particular matters where legally permissible. Material conflicts should be referred to Texas Rescue Med administration for clarification.
